Uridine release during aminopyridine-induced epilepsy.
Uridine, like adenosine, is released under sustained depolarization and it can inhibit hippocampal neuronal activity, suggesting that uridine may be released during seizures and can be involved in epileptic mechanisms. In an in vivo microdialysis study, we measured the extracellular changes of nucleoside and amino acid levels and recorded cortical EEG during 3-aminopyridine-induced epilepsy. Ap...
متن کاملBromocriptine-induced implantation during lactation in the rat.
When lactating rats were mated at the post-partum oestrus, treated with a single dose of bromocriptine (2 mg/kg body wt) 7 days later, and killed on Day 11, implantation was induced in 8/24 animals. When the litter was removed at the time of bromocriptine treatment 5/9 rats had implantations compared with 9/10 after litter removal alone.
متن کاملPlasma Calcium, Inorganic Phosphate and Magnesium During Hypocalcaemia Induced by a Standardized EDTA Infusion in Cows
The intravenous Na2EDTA infusion technique allows effective specific chelation of circulating Ca2+ leading to a progressive hypocalcaemia. Methods previously used were not described in detail and results obtained by monitoring total and free ionic calcium were not comparable due to differences in sampling and analysis. This paper describes a standardized EDTA infusion technique that allowed com...
متن کاملMethadone exposure during lactation.
QUESTION One of my patients is currently using methadone for maintenance of opioid dependence. She wants to breastfeed. Is breastfeeding safe for her infant? ANSWER The exposure of infants to methadone through their mothers' breast milk is minimal. Women using methadone for treatment of opioid dependence should not be discouraged from breastfeeding. The benefits of breastfeeding largely outwe...
متن کاملProtein metabolism during lactation.
Lactation increases considerably the demand for amino acids over that required for basal needs. The demand imposed varies with the quantity of milk produced and, between species, with the protein content of milk. Using data on milk composition from Blaxter (1989) and assuming milk production of 60, 1000 and 50 000 ml/d for a rat, human subject and dairy cow respectively, the ideal protein requi...
